Learn for a lifetime...
As of this upcoming February 2022, I’ve been a financial coach for 17 years. This journey has had its up and downs, but I still love it. Along the way, I’ve had moments that were pivotal in being more effective as I help people through their financial challenges. Two weeks ago, I attended a conference that did just that.
The Ramsey Influencer Conference is an invitation-only learning opportunity put on by Ramsey Solutions. I’ve been connected with Ramsey Solutions for nearly as long as I’ve been married, about 22 years. And I’m still learning. This time a group of influencers in many different industries and across the country come together to quite literally learn from the best.
Anytime I go to something like this I’m looking for that nugget I can pass along to YOU, my community. Sometimes it is just a single thought that changes everything. So here you go…
NEVER STOP LEARNING!
No matter how many followers I have, books I sell, or people I coach there is still more to learn. I have millions of opportunities to grow, improve, and expand my reach. There is no, “I have arrived.” There is only, “What else can I learn?”
My goal is to continue learning for my entire lifetime. Sometimes it is just a book. This time it was a conference. Maybe it is a conversation. No matter how the learning occurs I want to keep the posture that I don’t know it all. If I do that then I will always learn something new.
As I was at the conference, I realized everyone in that room had this same mindset. I sat next to people with 100k followers on Instagram who experienced A-Ha moments. I even had the chance to meet “The Money Guys” (money gurus on YouTube) who helped me personally through the pandemic shutdown. Yep, I had a fan moment! 😊 I also had meaningful conversations with members of the Ramsey Team who are so passionate about what they do but yet so humbling at the same time.
Each year, we are tasked with creating a 5-minute talk. The theme of this talk is to get your audience to know a little bit about you all while entertaining and engaging them. The first round is shared with a small group of 10-12 people. We each gave each other feedback and voted the best speakers to move on to the next round. This year, I was one of the top 10 speakers overall!
I was able to get feedback on my talk directly from one of the Ramsey Personalities, Christy Wright to refine my talk before I delivered it in front of everyone. She was fantastic and could easily be a speaking coach. On the last day, I did my talk in front of the entire audience of at least 80 people. And… I NAILED IT! Was it perfect? No. But, I felt good about how I implemented the feedback from Christy Wright and others who helped me improve over the course of those 3 days.
So although I’ve been in business for a long time and know a little something… I was able to use this moment to get better at my speaking skills. I’m truly grateful for this opportunity and experience.
