Train Wreck to Triumph

As we continue on our journey through 2020, we are at a point where we need to TAKE ACTION! Many of us are striving for more, better, different than we had before.  But if we don’t change our actions then nothing will change!

What Time frame is Appropriate?

Consider how long it will take you to achieve your goal. When deciding this, keep in mind that you need a date that challenges you, but is still attainable. Set milestones to keep you encouraged and proactively working towards your goal.

Carry 1 Bowling Ball Not 5

I once heard Donald Miller say that it is easier to carry one bowling ball, not five all at once.   I completely agree with this thought. Instead of spreading yourself so thin, choose one goal to which you can give your full attention and dedication.

Slow Down!

Remember life is a marathon not a sprint. To stay focused and consistent with your goal you may need to pause, reflect, or regroup to avoid mistakes. You could take smaller steps to the finish line by completing one 10-minute task a day or schedule one day per week where you check in on how you are progressing.  For example, what if my client’s goal is to pay off their car in one year.  One small step monthly towards this goal is to create a meal plan for the week and buy groceries with that plan in mind.  Preparing proactively helps you avoid the temptation to go out to eat and you can save lots of money toward your goal.

Team Up

Team up with someone to keep you accountable. It is harder to give up if you have someone there to cheer you on along the way. This may be your spouse, friend, or a financial coach. Schedule a 15-minute check in each week to touch base on where you stand with your goal.

It’s time to take action, and turn this 2020 train wreck into a triumph! Which of these ideas resonated most with you?  What will you take action on this week?
