So, What is a Financial Coach Anyway?

If I had a dollar for every time someone called me a financial planner, I’d be a rich woman! For this reason, I thought it might be a good idea to explain what I do and how I do it. Let’s reduce the confusion and get to the heart of the matter.

My title is Financial Coach. That means I apply life coaching techniques and practical strategies to basic money management. I focus primarily on budgeting, cash flow planning, and debt reduction. While this means I CAN speak to the ways to invest your precious moolah, I definitely CAN’T tell you where to invest it. I do not hold the licenses to give specific advice on mutual funds or other ways to grow your money. I do love to see how large your nest egg can grow, but I don’t help with any of the actual investment decisions.

Instead, you will receive unbiased advice on topics from purchasing a home, sending your kids to college, life insurance, and investing without any incentive to recommend specific products. I do this while keeping an eye on each client’s specific family dynamics and needs. Each household is unique; therefore, each plan will be different and tailored to your personal needs.

By the way… I don’t do taxes or bookkeeping. I am happy to help you find a good CPA or bookkeeper but believe me, you don’t want me to get involved in those tasks! That wouldn’t be pretty for you or me!

I also LOVE strategizing on debt reduction plans. It brings me joy to help organize your financial life so that you can accomplish your goals with ease, simplicity, and speed. Sometimes this work involves lots of questions, worksheets, tracking software, or getting your credit report. That stuff might sound scary, but I promise, my goal is to make it as easy as possible for you to succeed!

Basically, I am your partner--not in crime, but in money! The work I do with my clients helps them achieve more in less time, with less frustration, and no deprivation.

The other thing you need to know is that I have been trained by Dave Ramsey and his team on how to coach families effectively, and I am one of the financial coaches recommended for people in certain zip codes. However, Dave Ramsey doesn’t pay me--my clients pay me. Each Dave Ramsey Certified Coach has their own independent business and approach. As such, it is up to you to figure out who you feel most comfortable with, much like looking for a personal trainer, housekeeper, or anything else you outsource.

Because my clients come to me with different needs, I always offer a 30-minute Debt-Free Strategy session free of charge. It is an opportunity to figure out what your biggest need is and how to get to your best next step. If I can be a part of that through coaching… fabulous! If you prefer to work with another coach, I’m just glad you are going to be making progress.
